Heat Advisory Safety Tips
Temperatures are expected to reach +30⁰C and possibly beyond this Friday, and tenants are reminded to stay safe and watch out for your neighbours during this extreme heat. Practice these important heat safety tips:
• Stay hydrated – drink plenty of water and have cool drinks in your vehicle;
• Take regular ‘cool-down’ breaks in shady locations;
• Dress for the weather by wearing loose fitting clothes, a brimmed hat (or hard hat) and UVA and UVB protected sunglasses;
• Use a broad spectrum sunscreen (one that has both UVA and UVB protection) with an SPF of at least 15;
• Plan your day and, if possible, allocate your most intensive tasks during cooler hours (before 11 a.m. or after 4 p.m.);
• Watch out for the signs of heat-related illness (i.e. nausea, headaches, etc.) in yourself and your neighbours and have a plan for what to do when you recognize them;
• Pre-existing conditions may be exacerbated by the heat – take extra care and precaution;
• Stay informed by monitoring the latest forecasts and warnings from Environment Canada.
